From Palm Bay to Shannon: Our Journey Toward Sustainable Living

From Palm Bay to Shannon: Our Journey Toward Sustainable Living

Our New Beginning in Shannon, NC

After spending years on a half-acre plot in Palm Bay, Florida, we decided it was time for a change. Our move to a two-acre homestead in Shannon, North Carolina, represents not just an increase in space, but a transition to a sustainable lifestyle focused on self-sufficiency. Here, we envision a life filled with homegrown vegetables, and opportunities for community engagement.

Growing Our Own Food

One of our primary goals at our new homestead is to cultivate our own vegetables. This significant expansion in land provides us with ample room to plant a diverse range of crops. From fresh tomatoes to vibrant greens, we aim to create a garden that not only feeds our family but also promotes healthy eating habits. In addition to growing vegetables, we plan to introduce chickens and goats to our property, further enhancing our self-sufficient lifestyle.

Crafting and Community Engagement

In addition to farming, I will establish a workshop where I can create personalized laser-engraved items. This workshop will serve as a creative outlet and contribute to our livelihood. Eventually, we hope to set up a stand in front of our farm where we can sell fresh produce and potentially baked goods. This way, we can share our abundance with the local community while also fostering relationships with our neighbors.
